Education in the DRC as a driver of development: since 2002, Fondation Rawji and its achievements in educational infrastructure
In a country where the literacy rate remains a major challenge—with nearly 30% of the population unable to read, write, or perform basic arithmetic— Fondation Rawji has been a committed advocate for greater equality of opportunity. Since its creation in 2002, the Foundation has been funding the education of Congolese youth through its School Assistance Program, with nearly 37,000 school years financed to date.
A public interest program at the heart of the Fondation’s mission
For the 2024 school year, Fondation Rawji deepened its commitment to education by inaugurating two new buildings at the Malaika Community Center, enhancing the vocational training offered to the local population:
- One building dedicated to carpentry, plumbing, and welding, equipping students with technical skills essential for the job market.
- Another focused on painting and IT, combining creative and digital skill sets.
Since its opening, the center has already trained over 5,000 community members, offering free six-month programs. These courses provide real employment prospects and promote autonomy, actively contributing to local economic development.
A project in line with the Foundation’s Broader programs
In 2023, Fondation Rawji renovated the Notre Dame de la Gombe Primary School, a flagship project that reflects the will to provide quality learning environments. The project included the renovation of 20 classrooms and the installation of 134 new school benches, now serving over 1,500 students in improved conditions.
Building a Prosperous Future
Each investment in infrastructure is an investment in Congo’s future. By building and renovating schools and training centers, the RAWJI Foundation ensures that individuals have the tools to succeed and contribute to national growth. In partnership with trusted collaborators, the Foundation continues its mission to improve living conditions and create lasting opportunities for future generations.
Among its most recent achievements, the Foundation inaugurated 14 classrooms at the Saint-Louis Institute in Kasa-Vubu, while continuing the rehabilitation of 22 classrooms at the Klamu Technical High School and 15 more at the Primary School 1&2 Sona-Pangu in N’djili.
True to its belief: education for ONE, progress for ALL.
