Three schools inaugurated in Kinshasa: the rawji foundation strengthens its commitment to education

In August 2025, Back to School Takes on New Meaning for Thousands of Pupils in Kinshasa. For several thousand pupils in Kinshasa, the 2025 back-to-school season carried a special significance. Three emblematic schools — Saint-Georges Primary School in Kintambo, the Kalamu Technical High School, and EP1&2 Sona-Pangu — inaugurated new buildings, either renovated or fully reconstructed with the support of the Rawji Foundation.

In total, the projects represent 51 rehabilitated classrooms and 6 entirely new ones, offering pupils and teachers a learning environment that is dignified and conducive to success. This tangible investment reflects the Foundation’s core belief: education is the cornerstone of all social and economic progress.

An ambitious program serving future generations

For several years, the Rawji Foundation has multiplied its efforts to support education in the Democratic Republic of Congo. With more than 90 school construction and rehabilitation projects completed under its Investissements program, the Foundation reaffirms its commitment to building lasting, accessible, and learning-friendly infrastructures.

For the Foundation, every renovated classroom represents more than just a freshly painted wall or a repaired roof — it is a step forward toward a brighter future for Congolese youth. As its guiding principle reminds us, “investing in education means investing in the future, for today’s students are the builders of tomorrow.”

Three schools, three stories

The simultaneous inauguration of the three schools was marked by heartfelt words of gratitude and hope from their respective heads.

At the Kalamu Technical High School, where 22 classrooms were rehabilitated, the Prefect of Studies, Louis-Vincent de Paul Nzakue Obulmfe, underscored the impact of this transformation on the school’s 586 beneficiaries:

“It is through your generosity, your magnanimity, your humanism that our high school has been restored, beautified, and made once again a pleasant place to live and learn.”

His message reflected the pride of welcoming students into renewed spaces that foster focus and academic success.

At Sona-Pangu Public School, 15 classrooms were fully refurbished to enhance the quality of education for its 920 enrolled pupils. For its headmaster, Mr. Félicien Matondo Ngakwa, the project’s impact goes far beyond infrastructure:

“By offering these renovated buildings, the Rawji Foundation is not merely improving infrastructure; it is helping to build a better future, for a solid school is the foundation of a prosperous society.”

Finally, at Saint-Georges Primary School in Kintambo, the renovation of 20 classrooms used by 2,000 pupils was particularly transformative. Its principal, Mr. Benjamin Kadiebue Petumpani, expressed deep appreciation for the renewal:

“Our classrooms were in a state of advanced deterioration, and today they have been given new life thanks to the Rawji Foundation. We are deeply grateful.”

These words capture the gratitude of an educational community witnessing the rebirth of learning spaces for the direct benefit of its children.

Education: a national priority and a collective commitment

These three achievements embody the Rawji Foundation’s vision: education is a fundamental driver of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s social and economic development. Providing young people with safe, modern, and inspiring learning environments means giving them the tools to build their skills, confidence, and future.

In a context of rapid urban growth and pressing infrastructure needs, such initiatives fill a crucial gap. Beyond the walls and classrooms, they help spark a broader dynamic — one that uplifts youth, generates jobs (both in construction and teaching), and strengthens social cohesion.

A future written in the classroom

With these three inaugurations, the Rawji Foundation once again demonstrates that philanthropy can tangibly transform the daily lives of students, families, and teachers. The new and refurbished classrooms stand as symbols of a lasting commitment and a steadfast belief in the potential of Congolese youth.

By investing in education today, the Foundation is helping to write the first pages of a brighter future for generations to come — a future where every child, regardless of background, can learn in an environment that is safe, supportive, and full of hope.
